It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that the highly esteemed Prof. Dr. med. Robert Schenk has passed away in Switzerland on Tuesday, 20st September, 2011, at the age  of 88.

Professor Robert Schenk had gained a worldwide reputation in the fields of Bone Biology, fracture healing and implant osseointegration. He conducted pioneering work together with the late Hans Willenegger relating to the bone-healing mechanisms underlying the then emerging and revolutionary technique of internal fixation.

Since 2007, IBRA has been proud to allocate a Research Prize in Robert Schenk s name. Since 2011, there are even 2 Robert Schenk Prizes that honor the work of scientists in the field of Bone Biology and Internal Fixation of Head & Neck or Limbs.

His passing will leave a large void in the community of Scientists.

IBRA will continue to honor his work by keeping alive the Robert Schenk Research Pizes in the future.

Prof. Dr. Robert Schenk * 1923 - † 2011 Splitting of the Robert Schenk Prize

Following our intention to contribute to research advancements in bone biology at the basic and the applied and clinical research, the prestigious Robert Schenk Prize is now split into two different prizes:
  • Robert Schenk Prize for Basic Research on Bone
  • Robert Schenk Prize for Applied & Clinical Research

Both awards are endowed with prize money of CHF 15'000 and are presented annually in honor of Prof. Robert Schenk.
