Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT) provides hospital services to around 600,000 people living in Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire, and specialist services to patients from all over the country. We deliver a full range of hand and upper limb care across three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. The department has 6 Laminar Flow theatres, 2 day surgery units, 1 Minor Operations Suite, 66 trauma ward beds, 42 elective ward beds,  3 outpatient clinics and meeting/conference facilities.

There are 7 full time, fellowship trained Upper Limb surgeons offering ample opportunity to experience a full range of adult/paediatric upper limb surgery, both trauma and elective (excluding microsurgery & congenital). A high volume of surgery is performed:
  • fracture fixation
  • tendon/ligament repair and reconstruction
  • deformity correction
  • non-union surgery
  • sports injury reconstruction
  • arthroscopy and arthroplasty
  • WALANT
  • extremity skin cancer surgery

The department has a strong track record in audit and research, with on-going industry funded projects and is recruiting patients for numerous national multi-centre randomised control trials.

There is a weekly MDT (Wednesday 08:00-09:00) for complex case discussion, attended by surgeons, hand therapists and radiologists.
