King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s largest and busiest teaching hospitals with over 1.5 million patient contacts a year and more than 13,000 staff based across five main sites in South East London and Kent.

The Trust provides a full range of local hospital services across its different sites, and specialist services from King’s College Hospital (KCH) site in Camberwell and the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site in Bromley, Orpington Hospital, and some services at Beckenham Beacon and Queen Mary’s Sidcup.

The Department of Trauma and Orthopaedics operates across three sites - King’s College Hospital London (KCH) located in Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) in Bromley and the Orthopaedic Elective Surgery Centre located at Orpington Hospital. Our unit does not have a PhD programme

The Elective components of the fellowships will be predominantly based at the Orthopaedic Elective Surgery Centre located at Orpington Hospital combined amongst the specialist surgeons. Individual Fellowships can be tailored to the interests of each candidate.

The upper limb department based in King’s is one of the biggest departments in the country and provides tertiary referral service for complex upper limb trauma. The department provides higher specialty training for shoulder and elbow surgery and Hand and wrist surgery. The department is actively involved in research and actively participates in the NIHR trials. The upper limb department based at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) provides a complex fragility fracture service with weekly upper limb specialty trauma lists with high volume exposure to reverse shoulder replacement along with fracture fixation and treatment of sports injuries. Across sites, a broad exposure both clinically and research is available at the discretion of the fellow.

The Trust has built a reputation for high quality subspecialty services and has been recognised by our regional surgical trainees as an excellent training centre with the highest scores for training in South London and several awards for trainer of the year in the last few years including trainers and fellowship directors of the above programmes.
